Romantic Things to do in New York City

Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty

First time visiting? You can’t miss out on Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. It’s just a short boat ride from Battery Park by the Staten Island Ferry.

Ellis Island was the point of arrival for 12 million immigrants to the US (1892-1954), and Lady Liberty, depicting a Roman goddess Libertas, was a symbol of freedom and of a new life.

Now you can find here Ellis Island National Museum Of Immigration (just one of many amazing museums in NYC, along with the MET, MoMA, etc.) and go on trips to the top of the crown of the Statue of Liberty (it’s usually very crowded, so book in advance).

Central Park

Another must-see is definitely Central Park. Officially opened in 1873, this captivating and vast landscape includes a number of ponds, a central lake, a reservoir, public art, almost 50 fountains, sports facilities, playgrounds, and many fascinating landmarks, like the Bethesda Terrace, all shaded by countless trees.

The list of romantic and fun things to do here is endless, but to name a few: you can have a lovely picnic, go boating, enjoy some plays at the outdoor theater and get a romantic horse-drawn carriage tour.

NYC is home to many stunning parks, like the Washington Square Park, Riverside Park, and Bryant Park.

Coney Island

This former barrier island in the south-western corner of Brooklyn, Coney Island  is a great place to enjoy a romantic and fun afternoon at the amusement park or the beach.

Check out the Coney Island Cyclone, now at the Luna Park, one of the oldest functioning wooden roller coasters, first opened in 1927.

Also, take a ride on the Wonder Wheel at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, standing since 1920, and giving you clear views of the Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn’s beaches and east along the Rockaway Peninsula.

Pocono Mountain

If you’re staying in NYC for a while, you might consider leaving the city for a day or 2. We would recommend the Poconos, a breathtaking region in adjacent Pennsylvania, as it’s well connected by Martz Bus. Tickets cost $35 – $60 and the journey takes 1h 45m. There are also organized one-or-two day trips to Poconos from NYC.

Poconos is perfect for adventurous couples who would enjoy bird watching, zip lining, hiking, fishing, parasailing, canoeing, golfing, skiing, or whitewater rafting.

In addition to glorious nature, there are also many charming small towns worth visiting in the region.
